The first installment, The Eye of the World, hit bookshelves in 1990, with the last chapter, A Memory of Light, arriving in 2013. The Wheel of Time was a saga that took over 20 years to be completed. Since each book gives nearly every protagonist something meaningful to do, there’s quite a lot of material packed into Jordan’s novels that the show will need to find room for. Once the band of adventurers break apart, several different storylines open up, each centering on different point-of-view characters. Rand may be the main hero, but the focus isn’t strictly on him. That’s largely due to the sheer size of the book’s cast of characters. In paperback form, the average length of a novel in the series is about 800 pages. Also, these books aren’t short and concise by any means. First of all, the saga is comprised of 14 main installments and one prequel. With Wheel of Time, Amazon has a big challenge on its hands in terms of adapting all the stories that Jordan developed for Rand al’Thor and company. Based on what’s been revealed thus far, readers aren’t expecting Wheel of Time season 1 to go beyond the ending of the first book, but even so, now may still seem like a perfect time to tackle the entire book series. With The Wheel of Time on the way, those just learning about Robert Jordan’s fantasy novels may be interested in the best way to read the books ahead of the show’s release on Amazon Prime.
